VC Sharp Shooters Megun v. Lacy

INT CH/VC Sharp Shooters Prairiedancer MH ("Tango") x VC Lacy vom Briemoor MH

Megun is a hard-driving bird finder with medium range. She is at home chasing chukar in Utah's high desert, trailing pheasant in North Dakota, or pinning grouse in the thickets of New England. Megun has the stylish points and smooth gait of her sire, Tango, and she’s inherited the strong retrieving drive and biddable nature of her dam, Lacy. Her love of water showed at an early age, when she boldly entered a pond and struck out swimming for the opposite shore on her first visit at seven weeks of age. Meg soon learned to sit quietly in a blind along the shores of the Great Salt Lake, where she gained experience during long seasons with an abundance of waterfowl, retrieving species ranging from teal to Tundra swan. Her intensity in the field is exhilarating, but Megun is also an easygoing family dog with a happy-go-lucky attitude that makes her a joy to live with.

Scarecrow's River of No Return ("Raven")
INT CH/VC Sharp Shooters Man in Black ("Cash") x VC Sharp Shooters Megun v. Lacy

This little girl is easy to live with at home, but in the field she has one speed -- flat out! Raven has been unbelievably focused on work from her first experiences. She is cooperative, but is always ready for more run, more marsh, more birds at the end of the day. The word "quit" is not in her vocabulary. We believe that she will mature into a multi-titled, biddable hunting machine in the next few years. Once those expectations are realized, Raven will join Megun as a producing dam for the kennel.

INT CH Scarecrow's Winooski River UT I ("Montgomery")
INT CH/VC Sharp Shooters Hot Rod ("Rev") x VC Sharp Shooters Megun v. Lacy

Monte has inherited his father’s strong hunting drive and laid-back disposition. This young, muscle-bound dog has always been a hard charger who has honored his mother's points from a very early age. Monte's field search developed tremendously last fall with exposure to wild birds in North Dakota, where he commanded CRP fields, pinning wild pheasants with style. Montgomery hits the marsh with gusto, but he is amazingly calm in the canoe and blind.  Two seasons of hunting the Great Salt Lake marshes have focused his marking of downed ducks and strengthened his water searches; he is unstoppable when pursuing wounded birds. With his dam's grace and the soulful, expressive eyes and impressive head of his sire, Monte is not only rapidly developing into a versatile hunting machine, he looks good to boot! Though rough and ready outdoors, Montgomery matured into a calm and cooperative family member indoors by 2 years of age. His playful but biddable demeanor has earned him a valued place in our home.

Monte is available for stud to approved dams.

"Almost a Shorthair"

Shadow

Shadow is a white German shepherd that we adopted with the help of New England Dog Lift in New Hampshire. She was rescued from a life on the roads of West Virginia, and has become determined to fit into the Scarecrow way of life.  Initially she was scared to death of swimming, but has managed to overcome her fears to take her turn in the rotation and fetch bumpers from nearby stock ponds alongside the shorthairs. Her forte is assisting as a nursemaid to Megun's litters. She continues to play with both Monte and Raven, and, in true shepherd fashion, protects the entire group from strangers.

Dogs From Our Past

Gretchen (1970-1982)

Gretch at 10 weeks of age, playing queen of the hill

Gretchen was a farm-bred shorthair that developed into a very capable meat dog by chasing wild pheasants and ducks in Pennsylvania's Lancaster County. She and Craig grew up together, and the responsibility of caring for and training this dog changed his life for the better.

Sara (1983-1993)

Sara was from show lines, and although she was a great family companion, she lacked the nose and drive to excel in the field.  The experience of owning, training and hunting her for a decade led us to search for NAVHDA-bred shorthairs -- dogs that could do it all.

Molly (1994-2006) NA Prize I (108 pts); UT Prize II (181 pts)

Molly was a grouse dog's grouse dog!  She was a bit too high strung to sit in the blind and wait for ducks, but her intensity in the field, and ability to read wild birds gave her an uncanny knack for pinning partridge. Woodcock were in deep trouble when she entered the cover. This bird finder remains legendary to those who hunted behind her.

Anna (2000-2001)

Anna at Upper Elbow Pond, Maine with a limit of grouse.

Feld Jaeger's Anna was with us for a very short while, but she was unbelievably driven - this pup literally did not have an "off" button. Her life was cut short on the very evening she posted a 108 pt Prize I Natural Ability test score.

Jasper (1998-2007)

We lost a valued member of our "B Team" on December 14, 2007. Jasper, the greyhound that spread just a little fear in the hearts of Utah jackrabbits, developed cancer and passed away at 9 years of age. Jasper was our daughter Amanda's dog, but he spent the last 2 years of his life at Scarecrow Bungalow, and ran daily with the gun dogs.  He will be sorely missed.
