Scarecrow’s Rain Dancer (Rainey)
NA Prize III (88 pts)

Bridget, with Raven (L) and Rainey (R)                                        Rainey on Point

This special black pup is starting out life under the watchful eye of our niece Bridget. Rainey has a tremendously intense and stylish point, and she is quickly developing into a capable retriever on land and water.  As Bridget’s constant companion, Rainey is already the star of their puppy obedience class. Life in Silver Spring Maryland is full of opportunities to point the local cats! Rainey injured herself in December, and has undergone surgeries to repair eye issues and severe nerve damage in her front right leg. Running on three legs, she was able to qualify in her Natural Ability test under young Bridget's handling! By fall, she should be back on all four legs and preparing for her Utility Test.

Scarecrow's Hurricane Hailey (Hailey)
NA Prize I (112 pts)

Hailey was the dominant pup in the litter. This precocious pup traveled the farthest, landing near Halifax, Nova Scotia with Earl and Denise Cail, and their older male shorthair, Tyson.  Hailey started swimming and water retrieves right after she arrived, and began pointing those large provincial pheasants. She has settled in to a life of luxury and frequent hunts. With lots of prey drive, Hailey has already produced pheasants and at least one black duck for Earl.

Scarecrow's HeavenlySeven (Seven)
NA Prize I, 110 pts

Keith with Seven, North Dakota - October, 2007                                     On Point - August, 2007

This pup got off to a great start with Jean Strandlund in Wisconsin, and is now living with Keith and Tamara Weaver in Arkansas - helping keep track of Sadie (from our 2005 litter) and Emma, the black lab that is the pack's matriarch. This youngster is showing plenty of promise. We had fun with her on a recent trip to North Dakota, where she tracked and pointed pheasants with her sister, Raven. At five months of age, she was quartering naturally with good range in the field, boldly entering water, and recalling well - demonstrating the cooperative nature of the litter. She produced her first wild quail at nine months of age.

Scarecrow’s Gimme More Gun (Morgun)
NA Prize III (102 pts)

Morgun is quickly developing into a versatile hunting dog in Minnesota with Tom and Megan Norman – she was an unusual ring bearer and a gift for Tom's wedding proposal from his father, Mark Norman. This stylish pup began hunting sharptails in North Dakota at less than 5 months of age, and she has an intense love of water. We hear that she has been well acquainted with wild pheasants, and is reliably retrieving mallards - not bad for a pup's first fall!

Scarecrow’s Arkansas Cache (Bailey)
NA Prize I (110 pts)

Bailey in a rare Arkansas snowstorm, March 2008 - 10 months of age

Bailey is owned by Steve Johnston, and she shares the house with a pre-schooler and a toddler. The group of youngsters keep Steve and his wife busy! This liver pup was selected by Steve for her promise as a water dog - Steve is a dyed-in-the-wool duck hunter and needs a dog that will hit the water with gusto. Starting when she was mere weeks old, Bailey plowed into any water she got near. Steve has exposed her to plenty of upland birds, and plans to have Clyde Vetter train this precocious pup -- we hope to track her progress this summer!

Scarecrow’s Annie Get Your Gun (Annie)
NA Prize I (112 pts)

Annie at about 1 year of age

We sent this pup off to Bryan Lines and his family in Arizona, and she's fit in well as a playmate for their young child.  Annie will be testing in NA late summer of 2008, and Bryan is excited to hunt quail over her this fall.

Scarecrow’s Annabell (Annie)
NA Prize II, 99 pts

Annie has been working the covers of Nova Scotia with Brian Zillman for the past year, producing woodcock and grouse, and the occasional pheasant.

Scarecrow’s River of No Return (Raven)
NA Prize I, 104 pts

Raven on point at 6 months of age, backed by her dam (Megun, foreground) and her older sibling (Monte, background)

Jana chose Raven as the pup for us to keep, and we think that she just may have what is needed to move Scarecrow Kennel forward. This black pup has matured at a rapid pace. She is extremely calm around the house, but very intense and focused in the field. Her strong desire for birds and love of water is making her training easy; she has lots of range, but is becoming very responsive to commands. On a recent hunt in North Dakota, she was as interested in hunting in the water as she was on land.Update - by December, she is searching the marsh with gusto, and has no fear of icy waterways; she's on her way to becoming a premier water dog.
